Our thorough renovation brought a vintage ranch-style house into the new century.
Partnering with Hilla Bitton Interiors, each thoughtful detail adds to the streamlined finish of this home.
We began with the exterior facade — revamping the driveway, adding a soft wood interest to the eaves, new windows and doors with graphite casing, and thoughtful configurations. Brick cladding wraps the exterior corner behind crawling ivy at the front door. The cladding moves into the foyer and dining room, through the living room hearth, and exits onto the back pool patio, creating a smooth visual through line, from entry to exit.
Clients are both entertainment industry creatives and require a quiet backdrop to the intense demands of their work. Our soothing, sophisticated palette with a motif of natural materials answers that desire.
We value integrating a client’s favorite existing pieces and stories into new designs. We create custom pieces; reupholster and up-cycle where wanted; keep loved items, and introduce both vintage and new pieces from our design vendors to find that sweet spot — connecting the dots from family history to future aspirations.
Hilla took the lead on the custom furnishings, including the living room sofa and sublime bookshelf; all of the bedroom and bathroom millwork is also custom.
We collaborated on their backyard landscape design, including fabric selections for their existing furniture, and the pool’s blue coping tiles. For the coping, we used three different blues from Heath Ceramics, each color offering many variations in tone. MKD devised a counting system to create random color shifts for a natural effect.
The home has become an exquisite reflection of this family unit.
